« Back to productsArmy Air Forces319th Troop Carrier Squadron hand embroidered patchActivated on 1 September 1944 as the 319th Troop Carrier Squadron (Commando), it was assigned to the 1st Air Commando Group of the 10th Air Force. Initially stationed at Asansol in India, the squadron operated from several forward bases in Burma between December 1944 and May 1945 when it relocated to Warazup, Burma, and finally to Loping, China.
At the end of the war, the squadron was moved again to Huhsien, China, then through India, ending stateside in December 1945. The squadron flew the C-47 'Gooney Bird' throughout the war in Aerial Transportation in the China-Burma-India Theater. Its campaigns included India-Burma, China Defensive, Central Burma, and the China Offensive.
The original squadron patches were hand-made in India. Like many squadron patches in World War II, it was never officially approved. Jackie Coogan, a well-known actor, was a pilot with the 319th Troop Carrier Squadron throughout the war.
