Early in the war, ranks adorning A-2s was not a common sight, however, as time progressed, different types started emerging.
In the European Theater of Operations, they tended to be painted directly on the flight jackets, or sewn onto the jackets. These issued ones were layered leather glued to a square or rectangular leather base.
Our illustrated rendition reproduces a style more prevalent in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations. Here, they tended to be embroidered on leather; an influence developed by the 14th AF in India. We have styled these after original examples.
We offer two styles. One in a metallic thread, (which tones down in brightness with time, just as the originals); and one in a silver cloth thread which tended to hold up better in the demanding day to day routine. These are embroidered onto vegetable-tanned russet goatskin.
