The HGU-84 earcup is part of the impact protection system of the HGU-84 helmet. The energy absorbing liner does not cover the ear area of the helmet. These earcups are designed to crush (and absorb energy) when the helmet receives a significant impact load from the side.
Each lightweight earcup assembly consists of a tapered plastic earcup with a cushioned earseal with a raised inner ring (for maximum sound attenuation and comfort), a foam earphone holder, and a set of spacer pads.
The spacer pads are two ¼” thick pads and two ½” thick pads. These can can be attached to the back of each earcup for optimum fit. The spacer can be trimmed if necessary; the size and number of pads to be used depends on individual needs.
