VF-3, Fighter Squadron 3 embroidered felt patch

Fighting-Three aviator E. "Butch" O'Hare became the Navy's first ace and Medal of Honor by single handedly taking on 16 enemy aircraft and shooting down five in one mission.

VF-3 pilots wore the M422-A jacket with their legendary Felix the Cat patch. VF-3 flew F-4F Wildcats from the carriers Saratoga, Lexington, and Yorktown in historic battles at Wake, Bougainville, the Battle of the Coral Sea, and Midway.

It became one of the Navy's most famous squadrons and its patches symbols of courage, honor, and bravery.

The "Felix" patch was so popular, it was also adopted by VF-6, but Felix faced to the right instead of left.  In today's Navy, a similar Felix patch is worn by the aviators of VF-31.

We've embroidered the VF-3 patch in black and red on off-white felt with an border, using the manufacturing techniques copied from an original VF-3 patch.
