VF-92, Silver Kings squadron patch

Fighter Squadron 92 (VF-92) went through three distinct phases in its history, starting as

VF-92 on 12 January 1944 until being disbanded at the end of WW II on December 18 1945.

It resurfaced as VF-74 from 1946 through 1952; as VF-92 from latter 1952 to 1962; as VF-54 from latter 1962 to 1963, and finally in October 1963 to be redesignated VF-92 once again until finally disestablished on 12 December 1975.

The aircraft flown by the squadron included the Corsair FG-1D, F4U-4; the F9F-2 Panther; AD4 Skyraider;  F2 Banshee; F3 Demon; and the F-4 Phantom.

Every major conflict from WWII to Vietnam called on the Silver Kings’ participation.  Travelling the high seas, home became the carriers USS Valley Forge, USS Shangri La, USS Philippine Sea, USS Ranger, USS Constellation, and USS America.

The squadron served with distinction, earning multiple awards and commendations.
