Army Air Forces

23rd Fighter Group leather patch

When the United States entered the war, the Flying Tigers were absorbed into the 14th Air Force as the 23rd Fighter Group, comprising of the 74th, 75th, and 76th Fighter Squadrons

A major movie studio created the 23rd Fighter Group patch for the Army Air Force in 1942.  It was worn by 23rd Fighter Group pilots in the China Burma India Theatre of the Pacific and was adopted by the 74th Fighter Squadron after WWII.

We make the patch from five different hand-cut and sewn leathers.  The background is a thick, dark blue, cowhide suede.  The tiger is painted on a naked, hard finished, cowhide.  The lightning bolt and the tiger's wings are thin goatskin, and the border is a gold finished goatskin.  All the pieces are hand cut, trimmed, sanded, and sewn perfectly in place.
