During World War II Army Air Force pilots wore embossed  leather nametags on their A-2 jackets.  They were embossed using only heat and pressure.  The Air Force did not use silver foil to emboss their nametags until the 1950's.Squadron flight equipment specialists cut 5/8-inch strips of leather from vegetable-tanned  luggage weight cowhide that had been neither dyed or pigmented.  Then they cut the strips into four-inch long blanks.

We've duplicated the nametags exactly as fighter and bomber squadrons made them for their crews.  The leather is luggage-weight natural cowhide slit into 5/8 inch wide strips.

We set your name by hand using steel letter dies identical to those used in WWII.  Then we heat the type and press your name into the leather at more than 3 bar pressure.  After your nametag cools, we apply a special leather treatment so it has a rich, warm, patina that will look just right on your jacket. 

Limitations: Standard 1/4" size letters are limited to ten letters (10).

                     Longer names will use 3/16" size letters and are limited to twenty-two letters (22).
