Mascots have been around since time immemorial. They represent pride in one’s team, group or organization. The military has not been an exception.
The theme usually encompasses its history, equipment used, colors, or anything that showed its fighting pride and spirit.
In this case, VF-84 was flying the F-14 Tomcat. So, Tom along with the skull and crossbones were all brought together in creating this patch.
